But fantasy football isn’t the normal world. Or is it? [Ask the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens among others.] So, in many cases if you score a lot of points you may still lose because your defense isn’t very good. Speaking of scoring, we are now officially just past halfway through the regular season and with the trade deadline looming next week, there has been a scoring surge in the BSL in the last couple weeks. While overall scoring has been down this season compared to recent previous seasons, we have seen three different teams score over 200 points in a game in the past 2 weeks. That is 4.5 percent of all 200+ games in back-to-back weeks. So here we go with some 200-point record data for the stat nerds.
There have now been 67 games in which over 200 points have been scored by 1 team. We have never seen 200 by two teams in one game, but I am sure we will one day. And on that day one owner will be VERY angry. But anyway, the 67 games of 200+ are over through a total of 5364 games played through Week 8 this season, or an overall rate of just 1.25% of all games played. Getting 3 in just a 2 week span is a lot based on the ratios. The 3 teams that did it have a wide spectrum of experience doing so. In the CDL the Tanzmanian Devils scored 222.65 in Week 7, which was the 10th highest single week score ever. It also moved the Devils into a 2nd place tie all-time with the now defunct Denver White Broncos franchise with 7 games all-time over 200 points. The Devils are now only behind the leading Uncanny X-Men of the CDL by just 1 game, as the X-Men have done it 8 times. Also, in the CDL the Mean Machine scored 202.99 this past week, and it was the 1st time that franchise had ever scored 200 or more. And over in the TLSL, also last week along with the Devils, the 7-time TLSL champion Avengers scored 206.66. That put them in a tie for 5th all-time with four 200 pt games, tied with the FSDLs Sinister 36ers. The TLSL St. Pete Minutemen round out the top 5, with 5 such games for 4th place alone. The CDL has the highest rate of 200 pt games with 1.48 percent of such results, while the FSDL is the least likely coming in at just 0.88 percent. In fact, in the CDL the X-Men (8) and Devils (7) as active franchises have 15 of the 27 ever 200+ games in that league. And when you add in the (7) from the no longer active White Broncos, those 3 teams have 22 of the 67 total 200-point games (33 pct of total instances by just 8 pct of the franchises). 29 different teams over the years have scored at least one 200+ game. Of those, about half, (14) have multiple 200+ games while (15) have only done it once. So will the scoring surge continue, or did we get it out of our system?
As we said we are approaching the trade deadline during the Week 10 waiver period for each BSL league. We have seen some moves in the last couple weeks as some teams aren’t waiting until the deadline but with so many teams still in the hunt, we are hesitant to believe this season’s deadline will have a lot of moves. But we have been surprised before. Just for a quick recap, with 6 games remaining, in the CDL and FSDL even the worst teams at (1-7) [CDLs MLT Predators and Blue Coats , and FSDLs Toad Lickers] are only 3 or 4 games out of a playoff spot so no one is out of it. While in the TLSL it may be hard to see the FL Nittany Lions (1-7) or even the Evil Empire (0-8) having much hope, but neither are eliminated yet. So, this year could be very interesting to see who the sellers are and who the buyers are, and as always those standing pat just waiting for injured players to come back. We will watch the next 2 waiver periods leading to the trade deadline with interest.
Check back for more updates and a trade deadline recap in a few weeks.
